Turning a blind eye.

Sorry guys for the hiatus, had to stop blogging to enjoy the Christmas break with  family and friends. I had so much fun, and I hope you all did.  Well during my short break I came across a television show on Africa Magic, channel 151 'A Different View with Gena West' the topic on the show was 'Turning a blind eye'.

In talking about turning a blind eye we mean the choice to ignore behaviour that you know is wrong or to ignore something and pretend you do not see it. In our society today a lot of us are guilty of this act, from the government to the people we all fall short of this.

As a Nigerian it weakens me every time to witness the era of a new government that ends up with no basic change. We complain about the same issues every 4 years, I simply wonder if the government  actually turns blind eyes to important issues.

The government is not alone in this, we the people have our share of the blame. It starts from that man that politician that would rather embezzle our nation's funds to that man that diligently produces fake drugs and to that woman that goes ahead to abduct an helpless woman's child and also that police man that focuses on filling his pocket rather than protect lives and properties which he swore to do.

It goes on and on, what about the moment when we are too impatient to wait for the traffic light to go green, we move immediately its yellow. That moment we are done drinking our sachet water and we just throw the empty sachet out the window of our moving vehicles.

We turn blind eyes to wrong deeds which do not aid the growth of our nation. Its a single waste paper bag that grows into a big pile of unwanted dump.

"Charity, begins at home..." If everyone to take out time to deal with this very little things that can seem very insignificant, little by little, good deeds could pile up into making huge impacts just as tiny droplets of water can make a huge river or ocean as the case may be.

Do not turn a blind eye to "these tiny" things and they are a sure route to your "destiny" as a person or as a subset of the entire log... your family, your church or mosque, your offices or businesses, the nation or even the world at large. It all starts from you being conscious of the things that may or may not seem to matter. You as an individual can influence a change starting from you.   Life is simple but we make it hard for ourselves... make it simpler and all will be well. Do not turn a blind eye.

The Season and the Reason

By Paul Edozie:

The Reason

It’s another yuletide season… It’s another season of reflection of the year past and the essence of the sacrifice on the cross of calvary.

Of course it’s a season to make merry at the birth of the one who was begotten of the father… The only begotten of the father… Who was sent to earth in the form of a human to die for the sins of humanity that never even acknowledged Him… Even in His home. Humanity that never respected or acknowledged His kingship but could nail Him on the cross (though with a crown… Of thorns)

Despite the clear message “this is my beloved son… In whom I am well pleased, listen to Him”. The world we live in still doesn't know or  acknowledge Him. Despite all the miracles, signs and wonders… The world seems to find it easy to forget these.

One thing is for certain, “His divine power has given us everything we

need for life and Godliness through our knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and goodness”

Do not get caught up in the euphoria of this busy world where everything is so full of too much noise you cannot even hear yourself think. Do not forget the purpose of your existence or the essence of destiny. You were sent to earth to fulfill destiny and discover purpose so as impact lives through these. Jesus Christ knew His purpose and destiny on earth and also fulfilled them all to the latter.

The reason for this season of Christmas is the essence of our redemption from eternal damnation and destruction. Christ came to earth and we celebrate Him this day…

The noisy environment around us helps Us forget this fact by taking the “Christ” out of Christmas for the sake of shortcuts “Xmas” and “Happy holidays” to get bang for the buck in adverts… just so we get carried away. For the sake of Christ and the movement of the gospel… Christ should be celebrated not as a culture or a religion but as a hero, THE KING OF KINGS… A king and one who sacrificed everything in heaven to save us even though we have betrayed and denied Him several times.

It is not too late to retrace your steps and turn to Him.

God has shown us so much compassion through His son… It is high time we acknowledged His kingship and celebrate His majesty and glory.

God bless you as you celebrate Him

MERRY CHRISTMAS… JESUS IS THE REASON FOR THE SEASON.

In the spirit of Christmas.

Jingle bells! Christmas songs! Santa Claus! the joy the season brings. Few days to Christmas , I can feel the love and joy in the air.
So many things to do, gifts to be wrapped, friends to visit and I wonder what I'll get for Christmas.
We should remember that Christmas ain't just about partying, eating and drinking but about spreading the love of Christ to every heart, it's about sharing and giving. In all our merrymaking lets not forget about the needy, put a smile on someone's face this Christmas.

Soursop fruit or fruit juice can be taken to prevent or treat cancer. It is 10,000 times stronger against cancer than the leading chemotherapy treatments.

Dangers of skin bleaching.

Dark Nigerian women today want to be fair skinned, the black beauty trend no longer exist, black ladies now go after beauty products to enhance skin colour.
The believe that fair or white skin portrays beauty as led to the massive use of bleaching cream by Nigerian women.
Beauty products today have soared in markets due to the growing demand. Creams, lotions, treatments are all available to enhance skin colour. However, what is not promoted is the harm that a lot of these products can do in the medium to long term.
Skin bleaching creams are used to lighten skin in specific areas that are affected by discoloration and pigmentation issues. Bleaching creams are used for the treatment of age spots, acne scars, or discoloration of skin as a result of hormonal changes. Because of the constant exposure to the sun, some areas like the face and hands tend to suffer from discoloration. However, in some cases people have even chosen to use a bleaching cream to lighten the skin tone on their entire body, but this is not advised. There are many techniques used to lighten skin, these include skin bleaching, using skin lightening creams, soaps, pills, laser treatments and even surgery.
Skin bleaching creams come under different names, some come as toners some whiteners, they all perform the same functions of suppressing the production of melanin.
The use of skin lightening products is dramatically on the increase amongst Nigerian women the hunger for a flawless and perfect fair skin is a major driving force for Nigerian women and even some men, the Nigerian skin has higher levels of melanin which helps to protect the skin against damaging ultra violet (UV) radiation. The use of these lighting or bleaching creams affects  the production of melanin.

Hazardous components of lighting creams:

Hydroquinone – The most common bleaching ingredient used in skin lightening products Hydroquinone is a skin-bleaching agent that is used to lighten areas of darkened skin such as freckles, age spots and acne scars. It is considered a possible carcinogen (a substance that encourages cells to develop cancer) Prolonged use of Hydroquinone based products will thicken collagen fibres damaging the connective tissues. The result is rough blotchy skin leaving it with a spotty cavier appearance.

Mercury – Many skin lightening creams have this chemical in them usually in the form of Mercury Chloride and Ammoniated Mercury, which is a carcinogenic. Toxic levels of mercury can lead to mercury poisoning which causes neurological and kidney damage, and may also lead to psychiatric disorders. In addition, it can lead to severe birth defects. Mercury will slowly accumulate within the skin cells striping the skin of it’s natural pigment leaving behind the tell tale signs of grey/blue pigmentation in the folds of the skin. In the long term the chemical will damage vital organs and lead to liver and kidney failure and mercury poisoning.

Alpha Hydroxy Acids – Commonly found in facial chemical peels, these are not ideal to be used without professional guidance. These should not be in anything you use at home regularly.

Arsenic – This is immediately thought of as “poison,” which is exactly what it is. Some skin lighteners do contain this as an ingredient.

Harmful Effects of Skin Whitening or Bleaching :

-Dark grey spots
-Skin cancer
-Acne
-Swelling of the skin
-Cataracts
-Increase in appetite and weight gain
-Osteoporosis
-Neurological and kidney damage due to high level of mercury used in the creams
-Psychiatric disorders
-Severe birth defects
-Asthma
-Liver damage

Some of these side effects could be seen almost immediately while some are seen after prolonged use of bleaching creams.
If you are suffering from the after effects of using whitening creams see a dermatologist. Appreciate your skin, love it and love yourself.

Life saving benefits of coconut

Coconut is known for its great versatility as seen in the uses of its different parts.
Coconut palm is known as kalpa vriksha  'tree which gives all that is necessary for living' because nearly all parts can be used, the water, milk, flesh, sugar and oil. Even the husks and leaves are used as materials in furnishings and decoration.

For thousands of years coconut products have held a respected and valuable place in local folk medicine. In traditional medicine around the world coconut is used to treat a wide variety of health problems including the following: abscesses, asthma, baldness, bronchitis, bruises, burns, constipation, cough, dropsy, dysentery, flu, gingivitis, irregular or painful menstruation, kidney stones, lice, sore throat, ulcer, wounds and many more.
Coconuts contain significant amounts of fat, but unlike other nuts, they provide fat that is mostly in the form of medium chain saturated fatty acids (MCFAs) in particular, one called lauric acid. Lauric acid is converted in the body into a highly beneficial compound called monolaurin, an antiviral and antibacterial that destroys a wide variety of disease causing organisms. It is therefore now thought that consumption of coconut milk may help protect the body from infections and viruses.

The health benefits of coconut:
- Improves digestion
- Kills viruses that cause herpes, measles      and other illnesses
- Helps protect against osteoporosis
- Improves insulin secretion and utilization of blood glucose
- Reduces problems associated with malabsorption syndrome and cystic fibrosis

Good deed: A true life story

Mr and Mrs Alabi were both standing by Ayobami's sick bed, looking into his pale face. Mrs Alabi had tears in her eyes she could not understand why her only child who was barely 4 years old, the pride of her womanhood the only thing that gave her a reason to live had to suffer so much pain. Mr Alabi was out of strength he could not calm his wife, he had his own dark clouds hanging over him, the whole thought of losing his only child killed him. He remembered how long it took them to have this one child. The doctor came in without any one noticing his presence until he coughed out to alert them he was around.

"your son has low blood count (cytopenia) he will need some pint of blood for transfusion and you need to deposit at least six thousand Naira before we commence treatment"

on hearing this Mr Alabi gave his wife a look indicating indepth pain and fear.

"doctor please help us, this is our only child we will bring the money as soon as possible".

Mr Alabi knew he had no idea on how to get the money to pay for Ayobami's hospital bills and with the doctor not willing to start treatment he and his wife had to take to the streets seeking for help.
Its been four days since the doctor told the Alabi's to pay for Ayobami's medical bill in order to commence blood transfusion, they have been roaming around the streets of Ikare begging for assistance with no one willing to help, what no one knew was that the Alabi's were not indigenes of Ikare neither were they living in Ikare.
The Alabi's were victims of the insurgence happening in the Northern part of the nation, they ran away from home leaving all they had behind so as to survive. With help coming from nowhere the Alabi's feared that their worst nightmare would turn into reality.

Ayobami was getting worse with no one to care for him while his parents were out trying to gather whatever they could come up with. Emeka the youth corp member working with the hospital could not bear to watch the little boy suffer, he was so worried and concerned, he had no idea on how to help in this case, considering the problems he has with some of the hospital staffs concerning how he helps patients without their knowledge, Emeka thought of donating his blood to Ayobami but found out they were not compatible.

With Ayobami on his mind Emeka had to contact another corp member for help without hesitation and with the look of determination on his face Emeka remembered he recently conducted a blood test for one of his friends Paul who's blood seemed compatible. Calling Paul on the phone Emeka tells him all about Ayobami and his parents

"the little boy needs transfusion, it would really mean a lot if you can assist in donating the blood he needs"

with just few minutes to make up his mind Paul agreed

"I'll do it, when should I come"

with so much joy Emeka screamed that the nurses around wondered if he had won a jack pot

"please come as soon as you can".

Paul arrived some minutes later, the necessary tests were done the doctors and nurses were so glad to finally get a donor for the little boy, with lots of activities going on around towards the blood transfusion that was to take place Emeka called Mr and Mrs Alabi to inform them about the new development telling them to come around. Mr Alabi and his wife got to the hospital an hour later with disappointment written all over Emeka's face that the Alabi's arrived late he walked up to them and gave them a run down on Ayobami's condition

"the doctors are with your son, we got a donor he is inside the office"

with joy the Alabi's followed Emeka to go see their son's donor. On seeing Paul Mr Alabi fell to the ground with his wife to thank Paul for saving their son's life, feeling embarrassed Paul had to pull Mr Alabi up

"sir, please I only did the right thing, please get up, your son is like a little brother to me"

with tears running down Mr Alabi's face

"you saved my only child , I can't thank you enough, may God bless you".

Mr Alabi and his wife told Emeka and Paul about how they escaped from the crisis that brought them to Ondo state and how the whole stress of running away led to their son's illness and all they went through on the streets begging for assistance with no one willing to listen or help,

"no one was willing to help us or even listen to our story, when you called to tell us about our son's donor we had no money on us to even take a bike to get here, we had to walk all the way"

on hearing this Paul was weak he could feel the man's pain, the pain of not being able to provide for his family due to circumstance. The doctors after the operation informed everyone about Ayobami's improvement which really brought light to the faces of his parents.
At this point Paul informed Emeka about his desire to pay for Ayobami's hospital bill which really made Emeka happy

"I want to run home quickly to get some money, I'll like to pay the boy's hospital bill, help me tell the nurses to continue with the necessary treatments, I'll be back soon"

"that is really nice I'll see what I can do to also help out"

On hearing this Mr and Mrs Alabi thanked Paul and Emeka all over again, they could not hide the joy they felt, it seemed like an angel was sent to them.
Paul did as he promised, he came back with some money to pay Ayobami's medical bill and gave some money to Mr Alabi and his wife, Emeka also did the same with a big smile on his face, really pleased he could help.

Paul sank his head in his pillow that night really pleased with himself being able to help a fellow human being in need, he could recall the joy on Mr and Mrs Alabi's faces, with a big smile on his face Paul closed his eyes to
sleep.

Obesity

Obesity is the storage of excess fat in the body, which results in excess body weight, and an obese person is at risk from several serious illnesses including diabetes, hypertension and heart related diseases, stroke, arthritis and some forms of cancer.
Obesity is diagnosed when an individual's body mass index (BMI) Is 30% or higher. Body mass index is calculated by dividing your weight in kilograms (kg) by your height in meters (m) squared.
Fat is essential for good health, because it is a source of energy, it provides insulation and protection for internal organs but the accumulation of too much fat in the body is associated with variety of health problems.

In our society we love complimenting obesity, we acknowledge it to good living and healthy financial status, a man with a protruding stomach is seen as one who is enjoying life to the fullest.
Some people go ahead to pin their obese status on gene, I have come to learn from Dr. P. Shar that genetics is a loaded gun, but it is our lifestyle that pulls the trigger.

        Causes of obesity:
Biological factor-  Some individuals naturally use more calories to sustain basic body processes and the body stores calorie that is not needed for energy as fat.

Genetic factor-  The influence of a person's genetic makeup can determine the body weight but remember genetic is a loaded gun, it is our lifestyle that pulls the trigger.

Life style-  These involves diet and lack of physical exercise. When you consume more calories than you burn you are at risk of gaining some excess weight through the storage of extra fat.

Stress-  Though rear, but it is one of the ways one can develop obesity. Some people eat more when they are stressed up.

Drugs-  The consumption of some drugs can cause obesity such as antipsychotic medication, steroids.

Problems associated with obesity are so numerous that the body begins to wear out gradually, such problems includes weight gain, headaches, liver fat, joint pains, eye problem, waist pain, chest pain, low energy, coprostasis.

Tteatment:
- Change in eating habit
- Exercise and activity

Do you know(2) Beetroot improves sexual health and stamina

Also known as "natural Viagra". Beetroot has been commonly used in a number of ancient  customs to boost one's sexual health. Since the vegetable is a rich source of nitrates it helps release nitric oxide into the body, widening the blood vessels, and increase blood flow to the genitals.

Another factor is that beetroot contains a lot of boron, a chemical compound that is important for the production of the human sex hormone.

Excercise

Exercise is very important, it shapes you up, burn off some excess fat, improves your heart pump efficiency and blood circulation.
Most people ignore the importance of exercise, exercise helps prevent excess fat, if you can't do an actual workout, get more active throughout the day in simple ways like taking the stairs instead of the elevator or taking a work.
Exercising can help Control your weight, lower your risk of heart disease,
lower your risk of some cancers, strengthen your bones and muscles, improve your mental health and mood, improve your ability to do daily activities and  increase your chances of living longer.
Due to our busy business life we pay less attention to exercising the body, we need to adopt a regular exercise program. Regular simple exercise is better than no exercise.
Healthy body Healthy mind.

Do you knpw (1)

Ginger helps in calming indigestion, painful gas buildups, other stomach discomforts, and upsets. Used to treat cough, diarrhea, rheumatism and joints inflammatory disease, headaches, menstrual pain, fever and motion sickness. It also helps increase blood circulation.

Eating right.

Food is very essential for body growth, repair maintaining and good health. Eating the right food can help us avoid certain diseases or recover faster when ill.
There are two categories of people, the people that live to eat and those that eat to live. It is amazing to know that a lot of people live to eat maybe unconsciously. We become our own enemies at our dining table by not abiding to the laws of eating right. A bad diet equals bad health.
The key to having good health is knowing the difference between healthy and unhealthy nutrients.

When making our choices on what to eat we don't always make the right choice because we over look a healthy diet. We focus on junks, bleached and unhealthy stuffs. Very few people make vegetables and fruits part of their daily diet.
In making the right decisions on what to eat we should know that the food we eat should be 80% alkaline and 20% acidic so as to maintain a healthy body.

        Acidic foods:
Meat of all kinds
Sea foods
Fried foods
Processed foods
Canned foods
Carbonated drinks
Alcohol

        Alkaline foods:
Vegetables
Fruits
Whole grain
Root crop

Imagine being served a plate of fried plantain, fried yam and bean cake garnished with pepper and enough oil with a chilled bottle of water or maybe a really nice cold drink, I bet you'll call that a really lovely meal. You should know that it is very dangerous to consume oily food with cold water or cold drink. Imagine what happens when you pour cold water into a bowl of oil.

The human body is an amazing creation, the problem is that we are too acidic in our choices of food and this leads to fat storage in our body.
The body has the power to combat illness, fight disease and replace worn out tissues with new living cells, all we have to do is provide the body with the right kind of food.
Remember healthy body healthy mind.

Think and Ink it(1)

A friend wrote this felt i should share

The Race against…

In human nature (by default), we race against everything.

“A body will continue to be in a constant state of rest or constant motion on a straight line, unless acted upon by an external force”. – Sir Isaac Newton.

This goes beyond its application in physics, engineering, mechanics and the entire scientific field. It applies to life as a whole and brings about a few questions about life’s pursuits.

What are you after in life? Does it give you fulfilment? What are you racing against? Are you in constant or staggered motion? Are you stagnant or slow? What keeps you moving? What are your challenges? Are they sources of inspiration to your progression?

We all race against one thing or the other. A man driving a car, heading out for an appointment or probably going to work, races against time, he has to make sure the fuel in his car is not finished – race against the empty tank – driving on the fast lane – racing against other cars.

 – Races!!

A student with a load of assignments has a deadline to meet and still racing against time to submit these assignments.

Ever wondered sometimes where everyone in town driving a car is actually going? For example, you go to work, park your car and you look out to discover at about midday that there are so many other people still racing against one thing or the other in their cars on high speeds. You wonder where they are going and what is chasing them.

The thing about life is that no matter how far or how fast you go, there is always someone ahead of you even though you think that you are the fastest. So, no matter how fast or slow you go,  you will all get to the destination. The factor is time… Everything in the race is determined by how well you manage your time. Time management is key in any of life’s hustles and bustles. But if you remain positive and say this to yourself “slowly but surely” – said by someone wise – you will achieve things in no time.

To fail to plan is to plan to fail” – Anonymous

Plan your time effectively and you sure will get all that you need to achieve.

In as much as you expect the best, prepare for the worst” – elPablo

When planning for anything, plan for miscellaneous, exigencies and unexpected circumstances. Racing against anything in life requires a whole lot of planning in other to win anything. So don’t worry about how slow you are in motion and do not care about how fast other people are. Just be you. Don’t be anything you know you should not be. Just stay in your lane. You are ‘you’ and even better in your lane. It does not matter if you are in a “constant rest”probably stagnant in anything. Just keep plugging away, keep on keeping on, hold on holding on. It does not matter how constant or staggered you are in motion, keep moving. ”external forces” are only a natural occurrences in life that might bring about staggered movements but “that thing that cannot kill you can only make you stronger”.

Life is not a do or die affair… Let God take the centre stage. Confess positively and leave with this… the promises of God are already mine.

Keep Moving…

God rewards the diligent…

Drink Water.

How often or should I say how well do you drink water? We hear talks about the necessary amount of gallons a person should take per day I bet this scares a lot of people. Well when I found out about this it really scared me because I was used to the habit of only drinking water when thirsty which doesn't happens often and I  forget to drink water after meal sometimes . I had to work on my water drinking habit for my own good health.
Now water drinking is not only our worry here but when and why it is necessary to drink water.

Drinking water and in substantial amount is important for healthy growth, water is involved in every function of the body, it helps transport nutrients and waste products in and out of cells.
Drinking water should become a natural habit, we shouldn't just pick up our glass of water when we are dehydrated , when we eat or even after a vigorous exercise.
In becoming a habit take a glass of water in the morning as you wake up from bed, water helps in lubricating the system, helps blood circulation and also prevents heart attack. Personally I found this a little difficult due to the odd taste I get from drinking water so early but i got used to it  and I got good results .
Have a glass of water before you brush and have your bath this would help normalise body temperature. Also take water 15 minutes before and after eating.
And do drink water before going to bed, it prepares the body for a good night rest, it helps to clean up our organs. Drinking a glass of water before bed helps prevent stroke or heart attack.

Water helps in moisturising the skin as well, 60  percent of human adult body is obviously water, some people under go water therapy  just to improve their skin. You don't necessarily need to have a bad skin to do this.
I'll say drink water freely because adequate amount of water is needed for maintaining good health. Lets make water drinking a habit.
I hope to get feed backs from you, letting me know how your water drinking habit as improved  Remember Healthy body Healthy mind.
